We are coming to the end of our Centenary Year, which has been a very busy time for us – going down memory lane and enjoying all our very varied meetings which of course I have told you about through our monthly W.I. Reports, which I hope you enjoyed.
Janis, our President and Pam, our Secretary, went through the usual formalities covering the official W.I. Resolutions which we accordingly voted for, the majority vote going to the National problem of the rural bus situation, which affects not only our corner in Northumberland but all rural areas in England. It will be finally voted on at our Annual Meeting which this year is at Bournemouth.
Actually it is ‘voting time’ in our W.I. at our next meeting with one or two of our long-time members standing down from committee and new members coming aboard; the April meeting being our Annual Meeting. As it is also our 101 year Birthday, our catering team are going to make it special, something we are all looking forward to, soften the introduction to new members going onto the ‘COMMITTEE’!!
Our March Speaker, Geoff Hughes, was all setup for his presentation, entitled ‘Strange Tales & Ghostly Happenings in Northumbria’, so after his introduction, he regaled us with some very spooky tales covering a number of our local Castles, which we enjoyed, deciding to not wander off into a dark room, just in case. Janis thanked him very much for his talk and as it was a pooled supper we all tucked into a lovely spread created by members.
A group of our members are taking part in the Alnmouth Show at the end of this month; so, realizing we haven’t got long now, we are starting to rehearse our parts – but we are sure as they say; “we’ll be all right on the night” – hopefully!!
The birthday girl was Rosie Balmbra and as she also won the raffle, it was a good night for Rosie.
As mentioned, it is our Annual Meeting on the 1st April so it is out with the old for some of our long standing members, and in with the new – looking forward to a good turnout, to welcome our new committee
Our informal coffee morning this month is at the Old School Gallery on Thursday the 21st March from 10.00.
