About Us

We’re just at the exciting stage of putting together our first website (with a lot of help from a friend!)  No doubt we’ll make many mistakes but we are looking forward to the whole experience and hope we’ll make extra friends along the way.

Our group of over 50 women, members of the Women’s Institute, meets monthly in the Hindmarsh Hall in the main street in Alnmouth.

Whilst we are quite diverse in our talents we do have one thing in common – friendship. Many newcomers to our village have joined with some apprehension but found it’s a great way of making friends and local contacts and, of course, expressing your views and opinions on anything under discussion.

Some of us even make jam!  (but not too often)

Those who have never picked up a paint brush (apart from decorating) since they left school may find themselves invited by a fellow member to the local art group or craft class where hidden talent has been discovered – activities are not restricted to our monthly meeting!

As with all WI members, our community is very important to us and we take part in many activities around the village.  Our activities and the companionship and friendship of other women are perhaps the greatest strong points that have endured since the first meeting in our village in 1918

We’re a friendly, lively group and you’ll be warmly welcomed – what better way to spend a Monday evening?

Alnmouth WI is part of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes and also of the Northumberland Federation of Women’s Institutes.

Subscription for 2010 is £29.50, which is divided between Alnmouth WI, the Northumberland Federation and National Federation of WI. The subscription also covers the magazine, ‘WI Life’ delivered to your door.

Our Institute belongs to the Hotspur Group which is made up of a number of local WIs. Group meetings take place once a year when we join together to get to know one another and perhaps have a more expensive speaker or tutor than individual WIs can afford.
