Veronica Hind - winner of Taste the Nation
Team Northumberland wins Taste the Nation April 2009
FRIDAY night was a special night for the county when Team Northumberland proved that our food is the best in the country by winning ITV1′s Taste the Nation competition.
Northumberland beat 31 other counties to grab the top spot with the help of mentor chef Rosemary Shrager as they successfully won the final against Aberdeenshire.
The four members of the top team were Veronica Hind, form Bedlington, Louise Lees, from Rothbury, Chris Molineaux from Sunderland and Phil Coxill from South Shields.
Veronica said.
“It was my pudding that won it for us.
“We got a very high mark – 46.5 of 50 – and the judges said it was sensational.
“There were a few dramas. The sauce for the main course got burned and one of the trifles got smashed so it was really stressful and there were a few tears, but winning was fantastic – a tremendous feeling.”
